1988-1992 Schwaebisch Hall Germany, Cyprus, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq.
I ETS'd in Nov 1992 to work for DynCorp STIR in Stutgart. Then I went to 70th Trans still for DynCorp. In Dec 1998 I transfered to F co 1/160th SOAR(A) Ft Campbell Ky and still DynCorp. I left Germany because the U.S Army there said I was an ordinary resident and I was too Germanized. Screw them I came here and bought a house with alot of land and I'm looking to join ever good ol' bubba redneck club I can find. I am still married to Dagmar my german wife. We have two children Theresa 8 and Alex 6. Dagmar works as a substitute teacher for the school system here. I mess with serveral hobbies with the two main ones are model trains and raising Siberian Huskies. No I am not going on an Iditarod anytime soon.
If anyone wants to say hello, I'll write back, It may not be right away but I'll write.

February1989 to February 1992, Cyprus, Saudi, Turkey, (been there done that )
I got married two days after leaving active duty to a terrific younger gal. I hired on with DynCorp and returned to Stuttgart Germany two weeks after my ETS. I am still employed with DynCorp here in Savannah, Georgia at Hunter Army Airfield. I rebuilt a 1972 BMW 2002 in Germany and actually imported the car to the States when we returned in 1995. I spend a great deal of time now running my Financial services business called Primerica. I am an independent agent transacting business in Life Insurance, Mortgages, Mutual funds. Our basic concept is to help people get out of debt and invest for a comfortable retirement. I hope to be fulltime in this business in the near future.
I still race go karts and like to work on cars as much as possible. My daughters, Sara and Shannon are 16 & 14years of age now. They live with their Mother in Daytona Beach, Florida. I invite all the former C co. 6/159th friends to e mail me and stay in touch.

Sep '90 - Sep '92:  Germany, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iraq
In '92 I pcs'd to Campbell and served in B/5/101st.  Went to Somalia and actually received an air medal that wasn't a blanket award for a change!  I ets'd in early '96 and moved to Phoenix, AZ.

After a failed truck-accessory business experience in '97, I decided to go back to school full time.  So, here I am at Arizona State University working on a second degree in Geographical Information Systems; the first was in Anthropology.  It's funny how my travels in the military influenced me to pursue degrees related to human cultures and geography.

I am looking forward to hearing what everyone has been up to for the last 10 years.  Thanks goes out to Paul Scott for creating this website.  Great idea!

1990 - 93 Germany, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iraq
ETS'd from Ft. Campbell, KY in 1995 and stuck around Clarksville, TN.  Worked for Boeing/Sikorsky Acft Support (BSAS) for a year which gave me my first taste of "contract maintenance".  After that layoff I went back to school and got my Realtor License and sold houses for the next 4 years.  What a tough lifestyle to live!  It was good though....I met allot of nice people & stumbled across some great deals on Rental Properties.  But now I'm back working on H-60's again with DynCorp at the 160th SOAR w/Worley.  I see Tony Taylor, Eric Betancourt, Tim Overbey & Hubbard (Red) on a daily basis.
I'm married once again & have 3 girls and a nice house with 3 car dreamshop in the back.  I'm here to stay.  Somewhere along the way I managed to pick up a few computer skills which will hopefully help me keep this Web site going for all of us.  Drop me a line "y'all"! (new word I've picked up down here in the south! HA!)

Hello everyone. This is a great web site. My thanks goes out to Paul for putting this great idea together. I left Germany in 93 with my BS degree in hand enroute to the Maintenance course at VA. followed by an assignment to Panama. There I ran into Rodney Keyes. I got accepted to the US Naval Test Pilot School in April '95, a month after my new baby daughter Natalia was born. Life was very exciting and going great. After TPS I went to Rucker for a three year assignment as a test pilot. Then came Korea and now Savannah GA as a MI RC-12 Pilot. I've been in Kuwait for most of the year and should deploy out of here in the summer. It's great to read what everyone has been doing and I would love to hear from you. I know Lucy would also. Take care every body.

87-91, phase leader, squad leader, pc nco, qc nco, went thru it all...from the units support of ash and trash to VIP support, our grande time in the MED for the state department (that is still the best mission in my career) to the deserts of the storm and on to provide comfort...I sincerely believe if anything could happen it did happen in C Co. first...
After the storm I did a short three years at Eustis teaching AIT and BNCOC track...I finished off my tour at Eustis with a class of students from Israel, that was a blast...Moved onto Panama from there and met another fine bunch of soldiers that reminded me constantly of my family of friends in Germany...Went all over south America and did a great mission in Ecuador and Peru...(That turned out to be the Armies best ever Peace Keeping mission, It was Kewl) I have since been stationed at Rucker Running the 67N, 67V and ALSE courses...That has been a wild ride, very political but educational as well...I am with my third wife who is from Panama...We have a son who is a great addition to my previous four Kids...I am totally into Hotrods and fast cars...Still like to have a good time and hope to hear from the guys and gals of that grande time in my life...And Thanks to Jimmy for sending me this site...

This is a fantastic idea my hat off to you who made this site.  I was an IP at Schwabisch Hall during my tour.  We had our second son there so I guess he is an honorary German. Had a great time and started the NVG program while there.  We did numerous missions in country and several out of country. The Cyprus mission was spooling up just as I was PCS'ing to Ft. Campbell.  We did training for it such as an all expense paid trip back to the states for Dunker training.  While at Campbell I was assigned to C Co. 160th SOAR.  As a 60 IP was in at the beginning of the DAP program which is the armed Blackhawk. That has to be the most amazing mission I have ever had the pleasure of doing. I also lost alot of friends there including all the ones involved in the Somilia mission. I retired from the Army after 24 years of service in June 1999.  I am now flying the Russian Helos (Mi2/8/17/24) out of El Paso TX as an aggressor pilot do alot down at JRTC Ft. Polk and also in Nellis AFB Las Vegas doing air to air against fighters and also numerous other locations around the country.  Thanks for the site and if anyone needs a job send me an email.  Hopefully in the near future I might be moving to Huntsville for a different pace of life but we will see.  Thanks again!!!

WOW!  Congratulations on a great web site! WAR EAGLES!
I retired after 20 years in 1995 and flew corporate for about a year and a half. Didn't really like the type of flying I was doing, especially after the excitement of the Army missions. Went back into training and got a job as a C-26 instructor at Flight Safety in  San Antonio, Texas. Was promoted to Center Manager 3 years ago and love the challenge!
Let's use this vehicle to find the rest of the WAR EAGLES!

Ah the life of Darrin. After the Hall I pcs'd not by choice to Ft. Benning and got out of the army and returned to Germany. I worked for aafes for a while where I saw a few people from the hall, then I got picked up by Dyna and have worked for them since. I got married and had 3 kids that are the loves of my life. But now I am divorced and only get to see them on the weekends (dads always get screwed). I am in Savannah Ga. with Jimmy and like it except for the heat. Going to school to become a paramedic and possibly change careers. And thats the rest of the story.

Oct 1985 - Oct 1988 Flight Section Leader, Platoon Leader, Flight Ops Officer, and Brigade Training Officer.  Sep 1990 -May 1993 Beirut Air Bridge Liaison Officer in Cyprus.
I left active duty in '93 after three years at the Embassy and the great missions.  I moved to Auburn, AL. and joined the Reserves serving in the 6-159 Avn Regt at FT. Benning until 1995 and then joined the 2nd Battlefield Coordination Detachment where I'm still assigned as an Ops/Intel guy (figure that one out).
I'm still in Auburn living on a farm just outside of town; with a wife, lots of kids, dogs, horses etc.  I own a small FBO in Tallassee, AL. and manage to stay fairly busy and flying as much as possible.
I've been in regular contact with many of the old guys from the 203rd from '85-'88 and then in the BAB '90-'93.  I have many pictures and hope to post them soon.
Hope all of you are well.  Take care and keep up the good work.

Aug '91 thru Aug '97  OPC, OPC, and a little more OPC.  29 months of it!!
After I left the Hall in '93 when we moved to (shudder) Giebelstadt, I got married to a german and decided to stick around for a while. Aug '97 I PCS'd to (against my will) the land of the frozen chosen... Ft Drum, NY. After three winters there it was time to go, so I reenlisted for Ft. Campbell (sans wife). So here I sit at Ft Campbell, getting to look at Tony Taylor's smiling (yeah right) face every day. To all you former War Eagles out there... be safe, fly safe and STAY safe!!!

I have to confess, I never served with the 203rd. I was a "Hooker" with "Big Windy". I also served as the Airfield Commander from 2/87 - 4/88. That is when I met alot of Blackhawk pilots from the 203rd (Jim C., Ampy and Brent Mc., just to mention a few) Hey, Brent, my first flight in a UH-60 was with you. I gave an instrument eval from the back. I loved it so much, that after I left the Hall ( and 11 years as a "Hooker") I went to Rucker for a transition. Spent my last 8 years in "Hawks". 7th ID (FT. ORD) and the 2/6 CAV in Illesheim, GE. I retired in 1996 after 23 years and now live in Dallas, TX. I work for Bombardier Aerospace.

1986-1992 Schwabisch Hall Germany, Morocco, Denmark, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Desert Storm/Shield
I went to college after I got out of the military and got my Bachelors in Business Management with a concentration in Accounting. I worked for a bank called USTrust for a few years. During my time at USTrust I started in Recon but then got transferred to reporting where I prepared parts of the 10Ks and 10Qs. At nights and weekends I attended school at Northeastern and completed the Computer Systems Specialist program there. The bank was bought by Citizen bank and I left to work for Sungard as a Fortran programmer and Webmaster. I then got a Job with Vitel Software as a Visual basic and Crystal Reports programmer. I was still there doing pretty well until this latest market decline. Now I work as a contractor Designing Databases, VB front ends and Reporting packages at least until the market improves and I find full time work.

I have a lot of hobbies that take up most of my time. The most important to me is Hang gliding which I do as often as possible, I also Rock climb, Kayak, Wind surf and Wake board when ever I have time.

I got married right after the military to the German girl I was seeing over there. It only lasted about a year, she was very homesick and I was very busy. I got married again a year ago and things are going very well, we are as different as can be possible but we seem to compliment each other very nicely. We bought a house on Webster Lake in Massachusetts and I have been working very hard to fix it up. If any one is ever in the neighborhood feel free to send me an E-mail and drop in for a visit.

Three cheers to Paul Scott and Van Slice for setting up this site.  Second Flight still leading the way!  Left the Hall and went to Ft Belvoir till July 1995.  Finished the UH60 IP Course (much to Chris Downey's and Kevin Hornby's horror) enroute to Korea.  Got the 2 for 1 deal in 2nd ID and spent part of the year with 1/2 Attack and finished with 2/2 AVN.  Went to Ft Hood in 1997 with 4th ID where I got picked up for fixed wing in 1999.  I've been here in Wiesbaden flying guardrail with 1st MI BN since.  Nancy is doing great and still making trouble along with our two wonderful daughters.  We've been back to visit Dolan Barracks a couple times this tour and are saddened at each visit to see so much of our old haunts, filled with our memories torn down.  There is really not much left standing.  War Eagles!

This is awesome!!! I left the Hall for Ft Huachuca working with EH-60's. Missed the Saudi because of it but worked a few weekends getting Arab linguists through a crash coarse on the EH. I missed Germany so bad I reenlisted to go back and landed in an Attack Bn in Hanau. Not a bad place, only 3 aircraft and alot of flying. Someone had to pick up the flight crew after the Apache PL'd! Went to Somalia in the first wave after the Marines for 2 months until Ft Drum could get there. Put in my packet for Maintenance Warrant as I left Germany for Ft Carson. Can you believe I got selected? I pinned in 95 and went to Ft Campbell as the PC officer in 50th Medevac. I came back to Germany (can't get enough of this place) in 98 and have been here in Katterbach since. I went to Kosovo 99-00 and will be going back the end of this year. I will be pinning CW3 next month. Its great seeing all the names of folks I never thought to see again. Mr. Miller you and Maj McKissack were my inspiration!
to become a Maintenance Tech. Thanks. Hope to hear from you all.

Hello all! Great Web site. Looking back I always thought C Co. 6th, 159th was a great unit (the people) and I guess others think the the same by creating this site. I participated in all the missions as a PC/UT and ran Ops for OPC. I came out of Turkey just in time to clear, left in May 92 went to the States and 17 days later wound up in Kuwait for six months, attended the UH60 IPC then later the IFE crs. Of course the deployments never ended. Went back to Germany in 95 (Bosnia of course). From there, back to the States and am now the BN SIP in 2-2 Avn, 2ID, Korea. Ran into Downey over here. Hasn't changed a bit. I will return to Ft. Riley, Ks to a Bde SP job with the ACRC and retire, hopefully (stop loss Dec 02). I am still married to Karen and she is doing great! I have two wonderful bird dogs and love to hunt and fish. Great to here from everyone,(Hi Mick, Steve, Keith) Rex

LTC Laverm "Bullett" Young  2-19-02  youngav2@charter.net
Served as the Battalion S-3 during C-6 move from Schwab Hall to Geibelstadt.  Took command of C-6 upon the battalions return from Somalia.  Served as the commanding officer from Jun 1993 until Jun 1994.  Serving with the outstanding men and women of the unit was without a doubt the high point of my career.  It was also my low point as well.  I was in Turkey flying with our Eagle Flt Det when the F-15 shot down our UH-60's.  After the incident, the Bde Cdr COL Tom Hayes had the great wisdom to put the company back in action by assigning us the mission to support the 100th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion.  C-6 deployed (15 UH-60's, 5 Medevac Hawks, the USAREUR CinC Hawk, and six UH-60's from A Co) as the Assault Helo Task Force HQ.  We deployed 24 UH-60's in one formation to Normandy, France from 15 May until 14 June.
Departed Germany in 94 for CGSC.  After CGSC, assigned to FORSCOM as an ARMS Team Chief.  Took command of 12th Avn Bn (Executive Flight Battalion), Ft Belvoir VA.  After command served my time in the building on the Joint Staff.  I am now enjoying myself at the Air Force War College at Maxwell, AFB.  This has been a great assignment for the family.  My hats off to everyone involved with setting up this venture.  What a great effort.  Thanks, Bullett

MAY 94 - MAY 98, Besides 3 rotations to OPC, 1 rotation OJE, and 1 OJG.
Obviously, from reading about everyone else on here I guess I'm the young buck.  I did enjoy my time at C6, being deployed will make 4 years screem by. I got married to a German and PCS'd to Ft. Campbell in May of 98.  My wife and I had a son on May 2 2000, Connor, and we absolutely love it here.  The one thing I can say is that I do miss the old days.  I hope all of you take care and fly safe.

Mary Norrito-Koller  2-27-02  nokoller@t-online.de
I worked at Merchants Bank , Dolan Barracks in Customer Service 1987-1993 and was also an on-call Dietitian for the health clinic (as a Red Cross Volunteer).
I recognize many names, but it's very hard to remember the faces.  After the base closed I stayed here as I am married to a German.  I come from New York, Long Island, but have lived in Germany since 1986 and am still here in Schwaebisch Hall.  My husband and I have two boys (6 years old and 2 years old).

The base has changed dramatically (as Mickey Ferguson mentioned) and it is depressing.  But some of the old buildings are still there and have been nicely renovated. If you ever do come back to visit, you must go to the Haellisch-Fraenkisches Museum in town as George and Doris Finley have helped put together a whole section dedicated to the Dolan Barracks.  You will recognize many people and artifacts there.  That will bring back some nice memories for you!  Viele Grusse aus Schwaebisch Hall!

I was stationed at good ole Dolan Barracks twice: 1961-64 with the Artillery and 1980-83 as Deputy Sub Community Commander.
I retired in 1983 at DB.
We built a home/gallery/studio in Gnadental near by. There I did the caricature of the Black Hawk in 1986 with plenty of great help from Ampy (Hi Ampy!) and many others. it was great fun to do. Later I painted "Eagle Flight" to commemorate the tragic shoot down in Northern Iraq as well as several other commemoratives. In 1998 we moved to Boston where I paint and Doris is working on her bachelor's degree.
Our two sons are doing well. One works with a soft ware firm in Germany and the other is an engineer in Florida. Recently, Doris and I  attended an every 2 year reunion in Atlanta of those who I served with at Dolan Barracks in the '60's. DB was a treasured place for many. Great to read the names of those I know and to hear what you are doing. Mary (Hi Mary!) mentioned the DB display at the Schwaebisch Hall city museum. Please do visit it to see how you fit in with the rest of the rich history of Schwaebisch Hall. You all are remembered fondly.
Doris and I wish you all much health and happiness!

Aug '90-Aug '92  Maintenance, Crewchief:Desert Storm, Turkey, Iraq
Schwaebisch Hall was my first assignment, cut my teeth on crewing a Hawk in the Desert as a PFC(I think the command was preparing to lose some birds)with VanSlice, I guess we did a good enough job that they kept us on.  If I can find my way to a good scanner I will send in some pictures from the desert and Turkey/Iraq.
After leaving the Hall I PCS'd to Ft Drum(92-97)I Met my wonderful wife, Tracey, there, we now have 2 beautiful daughters(1 and 4)Worked as a crewchief for a couple of years, and a TI in Somolia(second day as an E-5 pulling KP because it was my turn on the roster) and Haiti(missing out on the good missions as a TI)
In '97 I went, kicking and screaming, to recruiting land for 3 years in upstate New York, I didn't get fired so I must have done a decent job, I didn't get fired.
I decided it was time for a break so I went to the home of the school house, that was a mistake, I was asigned to BNCOC as an Small Group Leader, I put some hours in there.
I put my packet in for OCS while there and was picked up for Transportation, and follow on assignment back at Ft Drum.  I've been in a school for 9 months now, I'm read to get back to work as part of the Frozen chosen.
I look forward to hearing from everyone.

Served as IP/SP in Schwaebisch Hall/BAB from January 1987 to January 1990 with 203rd and later C/6/159th
Excellent Job Paul.  After leaving the Hall, I realized some of the best times of my life and career were spent with this unit and more importantly the soldiers that made it all fun.  Our only daughter was born in the Krankenhaus at Schwab Hall.  I left Dolan Barracks in Jan 1990 to join the 1st CAV at FT Hood in time to deploy to Saudi as an EH-60 IP.  Linked up with C/6 a couple of times before the ground war kicked off.  Thanks (names withheld to protect the guily) for the APU, saved my bacon buds.  PCS'd back to Europe to the 236th MED at Landstuhl where I returned to the Hall after it closed.  Very different, the locals wished we had stayed.  East Germans were housed in our old quarters.  Arrived Christmas Eve 1995 with Rex Miller in Bosnia to kick off that all expense paid visit to that Hotel California.  Retired at Ft Knox Jan 2000 evaluating the NG and Reserves and doing some IP/IE work for 50th MED. We still live near Ft Knox where Jennifer starts High School next y!
ear and Denise is well.  I work for UPS airlines in Louisville training DC8 flight crews.  Thanks again Paul - Kudos

Hey Guys! Great to see someone finally set something up for us! I have been looking for references to 6/159th ever since the Internet came to be.
After having fun with you guys I got to come to the States, and recieved a wake-up call. The Army isn't as much fun stateside as it is overseas.
I got stationed at Ft Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield and quickly made a bad name for myself with the new 1st Sgt (go figure)!
After Leaving military service I had several jobs, but the 1 I seem to do the best at is fixing computers. So I live in the Savannah, GA area working as a Contractor for a local technology company.
I'm married (almost 10 years this December) and I have a 6 yr old boy. I'm not as wild as I used to be, but I guess having children will do that to you.
I will say, the most fun I ever had was with you guys. Even the bad times (the cold, the wet, the heat, the sand) all seem somehow better now. I guess it was because we were stuck with each other. I guess misery loves company, eh?
Take care! Drop me an e-mail! blakf2001@yahoo.com is the address!

After PCS'ing Aug.'94 from Giebalstadt to Ft. Hood, Tx., I obtained my A&P license prior to ETS'ing in Feb. '96. Life sucked there because the Army pay sucked and the promotion points never left the 798 mark for the whole year that I was on promotable status. So since I received my A&P, I opted to get out and flushed the idea of going green to gold. (Not to mention the "Frau" wanted me out really bad). So we returned to Germany while I was on terminal leave and I got picked-up by DynCorp in Mannheim and I'm there as of today. During that time, I've seen many old familiar faces. I was working with Worley, Pelham & Craig Martin, Jimmy Prater came back and performed respirator training for us, Yatkowski has buzzed through the hanger, Bill Henry, Joe Henson, I ran into Mr. Fitzgerald in Tuzla, Bosnia this past October, and Chris Downey rolled through here while he was still here in Germany. I'm still married to Bettina (going on 10 years) and we have a 9 year old daughter and 4 y!
ear old son. I've set my priorities on returning to Texas, but in the meantime, I'm about to attend a Fiber Optics Technician course and pursue my Bachelor's in Professional Aeronautics with Embry Riddle. Cudos to Paul Scott on this website, I intend to contact most of you guys whenever I find the time. I'm glad to hear everyone's doing well. (except for Jed; sorry to hear about the divorce)

Great Site Paul!!! After we moved the unit to Gieb and closed down Schwab Hall, I went to Ft Drum where I was reaquainted with LTC Forshag as one of his company commanders. We spent 5 months in a Haitian cest pool with Retsae, Billy Bales, Steve Yatkowski, and Rick Link who were all in the Benning Medivac.  After 2 years of command they moved me to a staff job that sucked.  I resigned and began a new life in consulting.  Shantelle (Johnson) and I live in Atlanta with our three boys (2, 4, and 6).  If you are ever in town please call us (678)445-1486.  My most fond memories of Schwab Hall; 1) cook from Crailshiem punching Major Barber at a basketball game, 2) showing Downey how to levitate after making a move on my British chick in Cyprus, 3) Susie Danielson's attack on Iran while trying to find Iraq, 4) Jim Clark and Retsae Miller marching on LTC Johnson's staff during the shutdown ceremony of his fictional battalion, 5) combat volleyball, all-nite stick ball games, and 'She!
en-Kebabs in Cyprus, 6) Bruce Bramblett reporting 200 rounds expended during routine training flight on de-brief sheet in Saudi (soon thereafter; Clark to Forshag - "Sir, I told Lieutenant Mitchell not to do it.  I'll go get him right away, Sir.), 7) Fusilier's (i think) attack with indirect machine gun fire on 6-6 Cav in Saudi, 8) Bale's and Ferguson's attempted murder of me with a rescue hoist in Cyprus, 9) SFC Ervin's loss of all facial hair after a small stove heater incident, and 10) Blinky's fermented Saudi brew.

EXCELLENT JOB ON THIS SITE GUYS. IT IS STRANGE WHEN AFTER BEING RETIRED SINCE 94 AND I THINK OF MY ACTIVE DAYS, YOU ARE THE PEOPLE THAT ALWAYS COME TO MIND FIRST. I HAVE THE PLEASURE OF SEEING LTC BARBER EVERY FEW WEEKS OUT AT THE BASE HERE IN FORT WORTH. HE IS THE FIRST ONE TO TELL ME ABOUT THIS SITE BUT IT TOOK ME NEARLY A YEAR TO BREAKDOWN AND BUY A COMPUTER. BY THE WAY, WHERE IS THE SPELL CHECKER ON THIS THING? AFTER I RETIRED IN 94 I PLAYED AROUND THE HOUSE FOR SIX MONTHS TILL MY WIFE FORCED ME TO FIND A JOB OR GET A DIVIORCE, WHAT A HARD CHOICE TO MAKE DURING THE THIRD QUARTER OF A COWBOY GAME. DAMN COWBOYS LOST AND SO I WENT TO WORK AT DFW AIRPORT AS AN AIRPLANE DISPATCHER. AFTER ABOUT A YEAR OF THAT I STARTED MANAGING A MAACO AUTO PAINTING SHOP AND BEEN THERE UP TILL NOW.. BORING YES!! 1991-1993, the short tour at "The Hall", OPC
I was lucky enough to spend most of my German tour in Turkey/Iraq with the OPC mission.  Miss spending the days dodging mountains with Keith Lynch, dropping supplies on the PKK with Suzie Danielson, going inverted enroute to Lyon France for the Olympics, and having an all out good time with some of the best in Army Aviation.
I left The Hall, 6 months after C Co moved to Giebelstadt in '93.  I got out of the Army, finished all my fixed wing ratings, Bachelors degree and found work flying for Fairchild Aircraft in San Antonio TX.  After two years of that, I was hired by Sky West Airlines and flew the west coast in turbo-props and jets.  I spent about five years there before I was finally hired at American Airlines.  Oh yeah, have been in a couple of Nat'l Guard and Reserve units too so that I could afford to eat during the regional years...Am now flying a C-12 with the Utah Army Guard in Salt Lake City, where my wife and I have finally put down roots.  If in town please call, 801-475-0278 and let us show you what Utah has to offer.  I'm based in Dallas-Ft Worth with the airlines and am always in the terminal looking for familiar faces.  Hope to see you all one day soon.

Well since Nov 95, I've lived the life of a civilian. The first year I worked as a small engine mechanic for a company who manufactured propane powered floor buffers with 16hp Briggs & Stratton engines. I stayed there a year until they were bought out and moved to Arkansas. While enjoying 3 months of unemployment I heard that Timco a MRO ( major repair and overhaul ) repair station for Commercial & Cargo airplanes had started a sheetmetal school. So I went through their program and became a structures technician ( another big word for mechanic ). I stayed there for 5 years working on McDonell Douglas DC 8's, 9's,& DC10's also Boeing 727's, 737's, 757's & 767's. Now I'm working for the Marines on their UH-1's $ AH-1's in a flight test program converting their 2 bladed rotor system into a 4 bladed rotor system. Well you would think it would be alot cheeper to buy some UH-60's & AH64's. But they want to blow money on these pieces of shit. So I've been here in Patuxent River, MD for almost 3 months and can't wait to leave. I'm trying to get back overseas where they pay the big bucks. Well that's about it I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New year.  (336)456-4914

thanks for your memorial to the soldiers who died in the helicopter crashes in N. Iraq, 1994.
I was a civilian in Zakhu, northern Iraq from 1991 through 1996, during which time I directed the work of Northwest Medical Teams in Iraq.  We had lots of contact with the US military contingent at MCC.  Just two Sundays before he died, Colonel Jerry Thomson told a gathering of NGOs in Dohouk, in a security review, that "if we all are careful, we will all get out of here alive. It's very important to my wife that I come home walking off the airplane, not in a body bag."  When he was turning command over to the next U.S. colonel the two helicopters were shot down.  I visited his grave at Arlington, on the gravestone of which is chiseled a very loving memorial from his wife:

If ever a husband was loved, thee
If ever a wife loved, me
If ever two loved each other, we.

He was one of the great men I ever met.
Yours
Bob Blincoe
P.S. I found your site by looking up zakhu on Google.

Currently at the end of my tour at an AC/RC unit in W. Jordan, UT with a 64 Attack Bn, going to Ft. Rucker school house(1-13th).  The portion of this web site honouring our fallen soldiers on 14 Apr 94 is very well done and I am glad that they will not be forgotten.  I never met most of the soldiers we lost, but I talk to CPT McKenna almost daily and knew what a great guy he was and I was looking forward to working with him.  The momerial to own fallen soldiers at Gieb looks great.

We wern't always sure if the brakes were going to hold or not. Sure is a beautiful place to be stationed. I am currently still serving, although in the Guard now. When I was over there, the Hall had CH-47's. I see now that you have HAWKS. Thats COOL. I changed from a tracked vehicle mech, to artillary, to avn. Still working on HAWKS. Keep up the good work. Seeing all these pics and familiar names sure brings back some memories. The time I spent at Gieb was easily my best in the military, which included 2 years at Ft. Drum, a year and a half at Hunter AAF, and 2 and half years at Ft. Belvoir, VA.  Following my stint at the Gieb I PCS'd to Hunter, where I deployed from 18 days later to play in the sand in Kuwait in Feb. of 98. After my return I re-upped for Ft. Belvoir, where I took over as the SI for the biggest dog & pony show around, Pentagon Air Transport. I don't know which was worse: getting locked up by some bozo on a CAP in N. Iraq or getting chewed out for one of my guys acting like an idiot on the pad at the Pentagon as 30 General Officers watched from their windows.  I got out in June of 2001 so I could get back to college, and I've got 60 hours left for my B.A. in English Communications.  I'm also the Editor of the school newspaper, having decided that I would like to be a journalist when I grow up. My wife, Sarah, an
d I were married in the Gieb in 96, and now have 2 kids, Devon, our 6-year old daughter, and Vincent, our 2-year old son. I'm proud to say that the boy has more mechanical ability now than I ever did.  To all of you still in the air: fly safe and stay true to what you do. Sorry for the novel guys...

Flight Ops (93P) 1989-1992 (BAB/Desert Shield/Storm/OPC)
After leaving the Schwabish Hall, I went on to Ft. Irwin, CA (NTC) with the 247th MEDEVAC DET from 92-93, back to Illesheim, GE with HQ Co. 11th Attack Helicopter Regt. from 93-96, to Ft. Rucker, AL with A Co 1-210th from 96-98, back to Europe with the USASETAF (ABN) Avn Det (C-12's) from 98-01, and now holdin' down Forney Army Airfield at Ft. Leonard Wood as the airfield NCOIC.  To start off, I would like to thank Jimmy Prater and Paul Scott for this site, gives me something to brag about to my soldiers that don't believe the stories that I tell about the patch on my right shoulder.  For those that don't remember me, I was the shy guy in Flight Ops (93P) and I got there in December of 1989.  Didn't drink at all ..... then I met the soldiers of C/6-159th!  Soon after headstart class I lost my shy status, and was nearly an alcoholic!  I can only think of a few guys in the 1990 unit picture that I didn't party with.   Deployed to all the operations (BAB/Desert Shield/Storm/OPC) with this company and hadn't been in the Army 18 months yet!  Memories I have are:  Doing Sling Load operations with a PRC-77 on my back, sling hook in my hands, in the middle of the night with no static probe!  Working with (at that time) SSG Gill, 1LT Mitchell, PFC Gaydovchik in Ops!  The "crew" starting with B. Moore, Williams and S. White from POL in my early years and the trips we took to Stuttgart, Nurnburg and whatever town we could reach on a Friday night!  Gaydovchik, Fuselier, Bulger (A 5/159) and many Germans we met, and finishing up my tour with Eichacker and Saunders. The Xanadu, and how it seemed we owned it because Fuselier worked the door, Gaydovchik was a bartender and Dixon was the DJ!  Even when it was put off limits, we still found a way to go!Trips we took to London, Switzerland and Garmisch.  The commo shop with Henderson ,L. Moore and Vincent.  The parties in the motor pool, POL, and that one at Dave Bristol's house (got footage of that one!).  Bumped into a few people during my time in:  Fuselier and Eichacker! while in Illesheim in NOV93, (that didn't go so well!), LTC Forshag, while in BNCOC and 1SG Anderson while working at LOWES in Enterprise as a second job.  I've been married for almost 9 years and we have 3 boys, ages 3, 5 and 8.  The time I spent in C/6-159th really opened my eyes.  Doing so much in that short of time was a good jump start to the rest of my career and still to this day haven't been in a unit that I can compare to this one.  Thanks for the memories War Eagles!  dustin.white@us.army.mil

I arrived April 22nd, 1992, as a weather observer with the Air Force; Det. 4, 7th Weather Squadron. Remained at the Hall until flight ops. ceased.
Some of you may remember me, I was the airman who's back was broken three days after I arrived, downtown at a Fest.I PCS'd to Bitburg AB, just as they came out on the base closure list! The family and I went from there to Hunter AAF, then to Keesler AFB to further my education, then I got stuck on another Air Force base until I had to separate due to the injuries I sustained at the Hall. I sure had a great time working with the Army, I actually preferred you guys to my own kind! Despite being called an Auslander and being shoved off a wall, some of my greatest memories were at that little post. My second son was born at the Krankenhaus, drank a helluva lot of great beer. And met alot of dynamite Germans (and a few ugly Americans!)Damned shame they had to close that little corner of my life!

Yes, I am still happily married to a wonderful man (since 1991). You know him. Dana Richard MacDonald. He retired at CW3 after serving for twenty three years. Now he supervises the war games/computers/ and people at JRTC at Fort Polk. If you are in the area and are out of the "box", look us up.

Memories are sweet treasures. I am so proud of everyone and that you are all doing well. Scott, Prater, and other involved have given all of us a wonderful gift. I would love to hear from you.

You may go to my Yahoo ID, nature_s_sunshine, to see more pictures related to Charlie. You can also link up with sites connected to my father's service in Vietnam (KIA 1967) and his name on the Virtual Vietnam Memorial Wall.

Served with Big Windy!  Just wanted to say HI!!
Greetings to everyone!  I served with Big Windy in Schwaebisch Hall from 86 to 92.  I enjoyed the time there and everyone I met.  This is an excellent site and I'm very glad it was brought to my attention.  I am the manager of a site at msn groups called the Big Windy Club.  Feel free to check it out.  The site url is: http://groups.msn.com/BIGWINDYCLUB , just copy and paste that url to your address bar and go from there.  Take care and have a good one!!

Thank you very much.  This is an absolute good you have done.  I spent 2.5 of the best years of my life at the Hall and with a group of fine individuals.  I crewed a  UH-1H, tended bar at the Rod & Gun club (Charlie Shade), dated a great English gal (Mandy Horton) and played a ton of soft ball.

Today, I'm a Vice President at a major financial institution in the United States.  I trade it all in today for one more day at the Hall with Porter, Beamon, Neal Collins, Sgt. Barnett, Sgt. Hartwell, Jake the Snake, DD Dauchy, Frau Biggs and Col Kitterman.

Go Blacksheep!!!!

liked the pic's, brought back memories. you even had a pic of my quarters. I think anyway. Boy Can't believe they put balconies on them. That would have been cool to have. I lived on the AirField side and loved watching you guys practice hooking and unhooking right outside my window. Also liked the Gliders on the weekends. I miss that place. The only person I knew from your unit was SSgt McCure. We were motor pool guys. Anyway thanks for the memories. Richy

I retired from the Army 1996 and my fondest memories of Germany are during my time serving in Schwaebisch Hall, Germany.  I enjoyed the comradship of my fellow soldiers and hospitality of our German hosts. Maybe someone can tell me, what are the names of the two bars outside the main gate (Hessental), one on the right on the corner and the other on the left?  We had some good times there during the disco years.  I really hope to visit Schwabisch Hall and Hessental again.

Hello to everybody who served in Dolan Barracks Hessental!
I was playing for the German American Footballteam, the UNICORNS from 1983-1999.
We always had a good time practicing and playing out there on the old Football field.  Well,it`s not there anymore, like most of you guys and most of the former post. I was lucky to get this web side address from Katrin Schaaf, maybe in this way I find out where some of you ,that played for the UNICORNS are hanging around these days. If anybody who reads this knows some Americans from Dolan Barracks that used to play for the CORNS, please let me know!! If you are interested in nowadays Schwäbisch Hall Football team, try www.unicorns.de,hope you`re able to read some German! Hopefully I find some of my former teammates in that way.
Greetings from Schwäbisch Hall Germany to you all!!!

God reading this has brought back alot of good memories. Got spoiled with C Company, the comroadery, heart, and team work. Went to Hawaii then Ft Campbell and hated every second of those 4 long years looking for what I had at Geib. So I have become a Bomb Tech here at Campbell. I have to say it's close but no cigar. Nothing can top what we have. You guys watch your ass and be careful. Unfortunately how I found this site was a loss of another War Eagle, Kryan Kennedy, who passed away 07 Nov in Iraq. God Speed to you all.

When I bailed from Augusta I walked down the street to BIG WINDY to do 47 STIRS. Great fun. Worked there for 2 years and I was one of the last people to step foot on Dolan Barracks. The Base was closed and we had one Hook being STIRED, I guess we just couldn't get it right. Finally it flew off and Dolan Bks was history... Great fly by from Dave Sanders and DANDY Dean Flimming. I still don't think they have fixed the fence!!
After that went to Geb to finish STIRS and swet out the big lay off... Made it, Oct 94 I was sent to Landstuhl to work with the 236 MED> DUST OFF. 7 years and 2 trips to the Boz. First trip was for a year in 95/96. Some fun...Mash of the 90's. The Blue Factory. NORMEDCO. Wow, what a blast!!! Now I'm at 2/502nd ( Old 70th Trans ) Working 60's. I hate them but it's a job. Getting ready to start STIRS 2, now called RESET...
Ton's of work ahead!!!

As the father of Erik I have been working on the shoot down RCM 303 and the accident investigation reports, these are public, but have very sensitive information within them, that were never intended to be challenged for a search of truth through fact finding, due in part as to the method used under the UCMJ that prevented the need. There cost alone would have been in the thousands at 50 cents a sheet. Since I was a family member of one of the victims, under the public information act, I received the volumes from the DOD free.

i did serve at dolan barracks  from the summer of 1970 to  spring of 1971

i was originally stationed at nelligen barracks  close to stuggart in sept of 1968 with the 4th Avn. co 152nd detachment  worked on the old ch37 we got those flying flew them to the junk yard got the ch47s in the summer of 1970  moved the company to scwabish hall

when i got to they they were some hueys with the 14thavn. we were still the 4th avn. as of april 1971

we moved to the old housing of the artillery just across the street to the rod and gun club  what some parties

i was an engine mechanic  fot those old ch37s we got them  going they were  pratnwhitneys R2800 got a few of the pictures dont know how good they are got a picture of the suppose to be ch47 in germany  the picture of the last ch37 i think  we had to sling some of those out

i looked through my stuff cant find any real connection with the 14Th AVN   but our head quarters company was at schwabish hall they could have been also known as the 14th   or it could have changed after 1971  when i left i cant remember

so cant be sure on that but as i stated in my first entry we were the 4th AVN  we got the first ch47s in germany  we also were the ones to have the last ch37s in germany  (and probably in entire army cant be sure on that either) we also worked in the same hanger as the murial that's got big windy on it  except it wasn't there at the time i was in

this is a great site  been searching for awhile  off and on

thanks sp4 finley (in 1971)

I am the father of Mark A. Ellner and my wife supports me in my grief
I have been struggling since losing Tony in 1994 due to the friendly fire incident.  I am a recovering alcoholic, and we had recently begun to develop a new relationship with my son and my daughters when tragedy struck.  Now due to so many circumstances that I won't list them all, I have lost contact with my daughters,Jamee and Launa.  My one hope before I die is to hear from them once more.  This shootdown has wrecked my life and the lives of so many others. This coming week is the tenth anniversary of 4-14-94,and I will remember what we lost, with my family and friends.  May God Bless everyone involved in this tragedy and all who serve!

Feb 1993 to Mar 1996 at Gieb,   7 tours to OPC.   2 tours to BAB.  Maintenance Pilot.
WOW,
Lookin over this site brings back a lot of memories. It's hard to believe that I have been gone for 8 years. My time with C/6 will not easily be forgotten. It was an assignment that truly changed the way I approach my job as a Maintenance Pilot and Manager. I had many good times and a few not so good times. I lost several friends to fatal accidents and mistakes and made many friends that I still keep in touch with to this day. Many of the names in this Guest book are from people are enjoyed working with, I glad you all are still with us and doing well.

I left C/6 in 96 and went to Ft Bragg and the 2cd ACR. We moved that entire unit to Ft Polk and then went to Bosnia in 97. I PCSd to Korea in 99 followed by my current asignment at Ft Rucker as an instructor at the UH-60 MTP course. I'm married with one 7 year old daughter and another due in Aug 2004. I'm scheduled to PCS back to Korea in Jun 2004.

Nov 84 - Nov 87 - HHC 223rd Avn BN, Flt Det- 25th Avn Co, 11th Avn Bde
Just found this site, thanks to Jim Cook! I wasn't with the 203rd, but this seems like the un-official Schwaebisch Hall site, so count me in. Good to see old friend like Brent M, Ampy M (the most beautiful Army Aviator I ever saw) and the talented Frank E.- aka Rodney Dangerfield. I served as the HHC XO (for a great officer- Capt John Finlay) the 25th Avn Flt Det Cmdr (the best flying job for a commisioned officer on post) and finally as the 11th Avn Bde S-1 for Col Marvin "Mitch" Mitchener - subject of my film "Mitch's Bad Dream"   ( I still have copies!) SH remains as one of my foundest memories in life, because of the beautiful country and great friends. I left the military in 88, right after returning from SH. I went into civilian life as a salesman and worked up to an EVP for several consumer products
companies (Humminbird Fishfinders, Valley Recreation) ending most recently in Oshkosh Wisconsin, where from 1998-2003 I oversaw the business operations of the Experimental Aircraft Association...yep the Oshkosh Fly-In! I managed to wrangle my way back into aviation and had a blast, bought another airplane and got to hang out with Aviation luminaries (what could be better!) Got back in touch with SH Alum Jim Cook, who has become one of my best friends...especially after I got him a "cheap" ride in a P-51 with Chuck Yeager. Now I have my own direct mail marketing company, with my office on the Oshkosh airport, hangar attached...so all you aviators drop in here and look for the sign next to the self-refuel pump, that says RSVP Publications. Walk on in and grab a cold beer!

MAJ Dave Leach  5-12-04  leachdj@bragg.army.mil
C-6-159th Jan 94 - Mar 97  (5 rotations to OPC - 14 mos total)
I was a newly assigned 2LT platoon leader when we received word about the shootdown on 14 April 1994.  6 days later, my platoon and I boarded a C-130 and flew to Diyarbakir.  I spent the next two and a half years doing rotations to Turkey and northern Iraq flying with some of the most competent (and humorous) soldiers I've ever met.

I have a couple of photographs in my office from my time with EFD. Recently, I had the opportunity to tell one of my officers about what we did there and some of the anitcs of guys like Matt Hubbard, Ryan Grippen, Jeff Gordon, Perry Matthews, Stu Hartwell, Otto Gambrell, Bryan Stokes, Joey "Bag-o-doughnuts" Bagley, and SGT Dave Hietzelman.  I left out a lot of the details concerning my promotion parties to both 1LT and CPT (specifically
the sand-bag wall in front of my door the next morning).

Serving in Eagle FLight was a great experience.  I wish I could go back for a "Chet's Special" in Diyarbakir or "go tactical" against an unsuspecting Kurdish farmer in the field just before landing in Zakho. Unfortunately, I now log time with the UH-Desk and can only see the flight line when I'm walking to the simulator to get my FAC 3 minimums.  I hope all
is well with each former member of the mighty "War Eagle" and Eagle Flight
Detachment team.

MAJ Dave Leach, XO, 1-58th Aviation (Airborne)
